Links for the week

Not much in the intray today, although I seem to have been reading a lot of good stuff about the place. Somewhat scatterbrained this week. Anyhow:

Essential reading on loud recordings. More: Alex Ross and Nick Southall at Stylus (most links via Sasha Frere-Jones)

Jonathan Bellman typically OTM with some of the better insight I’ve read on the Idomeneo fiasco. (BTW, in passing, anyone else fed up of newspaper editorials one day thoroughly condemning the Pope for attempting a theological debate on religion and violence and the next defending the sort of free speech that sets out to shock – and little else, it seems – exhibited at Berlin Opera? Can you say ‘theatre directors always right, Catholics always wrong’? (OK now I’m stirring somewhat, but still.))

And happy birthday Steve Reich!
