While I’m in the mood for plugging things, I should put in a word for Mark Troop’s Second Glance Festival, currently underway at the Bolivar Hall, Grafton Way. The idea behind the series is to give second performances of contemporary chamber works. This is an attractive enough idea in itself, but the real draw is the Carducci String Quartet, who are among the best players I’ve seen this year. As an added bonus, the Bolivar Hall is a little-known, venue housed inside the Venezuelan Embassy, and is just right for small chamber concerts like these.
There are still three concerts left in the series of five; all look worth going to, but the June 25th show looks particularly good.
