If you’re an music agent, artist or programmer, don’t forget that the deadline for nominations for Encore: Chamber Music – a project by the Royal Philharmonic Society and BBC Radio 3 that sets out to rediscover significant, unjustly overlooked chamber works by living British composers – is THIS FRIDAY, 18 June. Nominations may be made here.
Some more information from the press release:
While the world premiere of a new piece of music is often the focus of media attention and heightened expectation, only repeated hearings can bring out the depth and detail that will ensure a work’s place in the repertoire. Funding is rarely available for subsequent performances and all too often works of real musical worth disappear from view.
The Royal Philharmonic Society and BBC Radio 3 seeks to redress this balance, by turning the spotlight on unjustly overlooked works from the chamber repertoire. Agents, artists and programmers have been invited to nominate the ‘lost’ works that they feel should be heard again.
I’m intrigued to know who you will nominate, Tim – if anyone!
I will be nominating Paul Newland’s “Monotonous Forest” which we (i.e. Radius) played at the Wigmore last year.
Too many to choose from, Tim, I’m not sure where to begin! But Monotonous Forest is a beautiful piece.
It appears that the rules say nominations can’t have been performed “professionally” since 2005, which is a curious limitation.
Do we count Radius as professional… one certainly couldn’t make a living from it!!!
